As promised, here’s the full story on the Heading Home for Dinner ‘Cocktails with the Maharani’ charity bar cart…it was a smashing success. Our gesture to be a part of this amazing organization is small but we did it with great love and gratitude!
All bar carts and tables were incredibly creative and beautifully executed. I was thrilled to have my idea chosen and to be among such talented designers. It’s a privilege for the design community to come together and contribute to the Heading Home organization! What better fit for the design community? Learn more about this fantastic organization:
Their mission – to end family homelessness by providing a pathway to self-sufficiency that begins with a home.
When I began thinking about this event, I knew that I wanted to evoke the elegance of a by-gone era. I settled on creating a vision of the Maharani’s boudoir, as she relaxes and prepares for a festive evening ahead…
We started by looking for a bar cart that was exceptionally crafted fit for a queen; And found the perfect one at Ailanthus located at the Boston Design Center. A huge thank you for their generous donation of the exquisite bar cart! Combining some of my family heirlooms and newer pieces we created a vignette giving the viewer a sense that one had stepped into the private chamber of the Maharani.
A lucky bidder received the bar cart, silk sari, matching pillow, and jewelry. I also donated my original intaglio print “Spring 2016” as a part of the package. I’m never happier than when I can combine my fine art and design worlds!
For an “in person” experience, take a tour of the some of the carts and tables and catch some fun interviews with the designers – including me! Check it out below:
While we all make our individual contributions, the impact of so many people coalescing is so much greater than the sum of the parts. As designers, our primary mission is to provide a beautiful home for our clients; Heading Home’s mission is to provide a home for those in need. It’s a perfect synergy. Together we raised $100,000 to improve the lives of homeless families in Boston – a thrill in every way!
So much for now until 2018, ciao! Xoxo Vani
